In the Great Hall: A Spirited Debate Between Lord Macintosh and Merida

Lord Macintosh: Ah, Princess Merida! Just the lass I was hopin’ to run into. Seems your younger brothers were up to no good again, nearly letting loose my prized hounds during the festival!

Merida: Och, Lord Macintosh, you know those wee devils. Can’t keep ’em out of trouble for a moment! But why were your hounds at the festival anyway? Surely a man of your nobility is too keen on proper manners to drag them along, aye?

Lord Macintosh: Proper manners, you say? Well, those hounds of mine are nothin’ but the finest in all the clans—truly a sight to behold! They have their own way of charm. A bit like myself, don’t ya think?

Merida: Charming, you, say? I suppose the word itself needs a bit more roaming around the wild highlands to come around to fitting you, my lord. But let’s na get tangled about that. Tell me, how’s the archery coming along? Managed to hit the target yet?

Lord Macintosh: Ha! I knew you’d get around to jabbing at my archery someday. Just because I can’t match your bullseye prowess, doesn’t mean I’m not perfectly formidable. A warlord like me has other battles to win, after all!

Merida: True enough, true enough. And you have a fervor for it that not even the wind dares to rival. But there’s always room to train, my lord. Perhaps our next betrothal gathering could include a friendly contest. No hounds though, unless it’s you they’re searching for!

Lord Macintosh: Aye, you’ve a quick wit, young Merida. A contest, you say? Well, I’ll not back down from such a challenge. Just watch your drink around those triplets if you want tae make a clean shot!

Merida: Isn’t that the truth! Very well, Lord Macintosh, it’s a plan. Let’s show the clans that a bit of friendly competition binds us stronger than the fiercest of storms!

Lord Macintosh: Agreed, lass! And if any of these other clansmen doubt our spirit, well, they’ve another thing comin’. To good sports and highland spirits, then!
